 Cleaning up your quilt top
#1   clip all threads from the top of your quilt top
#2   check to make sure that all seams have been sewn properly (seams are not coming undone )
#3   Check to make sure that all blocks or sewn pieces are going the right way
#4   Check the seams on the back of your quilt top to make sure that they have been ironed
properly. Make sure that your seams are not flip - flopping back and forth  This is very
important if your quilt will be quilted in the ditch
 #
5   If you have white or light fabric in your quilt topthan you must turn your quilt top over and snip all
of the fraying threads ( these threads will show through on the top after it has been quilted

#6   Serge or straight stitch around  the edges of your quilt top, this will hold the seams together
        while it is being quilted
#7   measure your quilt top in 6 places ( measure the width of both top and bottom borders and also
measure the width through the middle of the quilt top. Next, measure the borders length wise from
top to bottom  and also the middle of your quilt, top  from top to bottom. If your quilt top is out by
more than 2 1/2 inches, you may want to fix the problem before you take it out to be quilted
#8   Use a lint roller to clean all pet hair and any loose threads from your quilt top
         (set aside)

How to choose the right backing for your Quilt

-100% cotton or flannel is the best fabric that you can use for the backing on
your quilt. Painted fabric and sheets are not a good choice.
 - using solid colored fabric for backing will show the quilted design much better
   than a busy fabric.
 - How big should your quilt backing be? Your backing and batting should be
at least 8" wider and 8" longer than your quilt top.
     Example :     quilt top  50" x 50"
                           backing  58" x 58"
                           batting    58" x 58"
 - serge or straight stitch the cut ends of the fabric before washing ( this will help
to stop ends from fraying ) wash, dry and iron your fabric before piecing the
seams. ( when ever possible, join the seams horizontality, the width of your quilt,
  - Most quilt shops now carry wide backings. I carry 108" wide Batik backings in
over 75 different colors and patterns. Please see picture at side.
 - Please do not layer your batting, backing and quilt top.
